Throughout history,
El Puerto has benefited from the influence of the successive cultures
that settled, the result of which can be seen today in the welcoming
and friendly citizens of El Puerto.
The earliest traces of settlement have been dated back to the Early
Paleolithic period, but the foundation of the city didn´t occur
until after the Trojan War, when the city was called El Puerto de Menestheo.
In the year 711 A.D the city became incorporated into the Arab Empire
and it wasn´t until the 13th Century, after Alfonso X captured
the city, when it was given the name, Santa María del Puerto.
When Felipe V was proclaimed king, the city requested to become part
of the Spanish Royal territories.
